Tranquility Returns Amidst Fierce Inter-Clan Clashes Claiming 60 Lives in Central Somalia

Abshir Abdi Shikhow, Galmudug’s info honcho, ascribed the tussle between rival militias to a wrangle over grazing turf and water resources.

Shikhow mentioned the fierce scuffle between the Dir and Marihan clans, kicking off Saturday, has resulted in over 70 casualties.

“As the Galmudug authorities, we’ve wrangled the violence to a halt and dispersed the militias,” Shikhow told Xinhua over a call. He added, “Security’s now tight in the conflict zone.”

He shared that the gravely wounded have been airlifted to Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, for specialized care, laying blame on al-Shabab insurgents for stirring the inter-clan brawl in Galmudug.

Ahmed Abdi Karie, Galmudug State’s president, has rounded up a quintet committee, including top dogs from interior, finance, religious affairs, and information ministries to broker peace between the feuding clans.
