Somalia: Govt, Opposes Statement of African Security Council resolutions

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) welcomed a renewed initiative by the African Union to facilitate talks on holding elections.

But the FGS also blamed Kenya and Djibouti for engaging in what Information Minister Osman Dubbe described as a sinister campaign to derail the political process in Somalia through their influence in the commission.

Dubbe said the Somali government will not accept interference by the African Union into its domestic affairs, and added intervention in internal affairs violates the founding principles of the continental body which Somalia was among the pioneers.

Latest press briefing, Minister of Information of the Somali Federal Government Osman Abukar Dubbe addressed the call from the Security Council and the African Union.

Minister Dubbe said in a press conference that they were previously skeptical of the conference, which was chaired by the government of Djibouti and edited by the Kenyan government.

However, the information minister said the government welcomed the appointment of a special envoy to Somalia by the African Union.

“Djibouti’s government continues to do what we warned four years ago, and Djibouti’s seat on the Security Council was right for Somalia, but Djibouti accepted it in a fraternal way,” Dubbe said.
The Minister of Information said that the Council condemned Parliament’s decision.

“No organization can criticize an independent country, it is illegal and the Somali government does not welcome criticism of the parliament,” he said.

The minister also said he did not welcome the fact that AMISOM troops monitoring the movements of Somali forces.

“This is a strange thing and it is illegal. It is clearly contrary to AMISOM’s mandate under UN Security Council Resolution 2568,” he added.

“The governments of Kenya and Djibouti have worked hard for the outcome of the conference, but I am surprised that the government of Djibouti has been in conflict with the Kenyan government in the past.”
