Rights Violations Surge in Zimbabwe, Local Watchdog Reports

In its latest report, the watchdog said the cases spanned severe abuses — including torture, assault, enforced disappearances and abductions — as well as infringements on civil and political rights.

The group said members of the ruling Zanu PF party were responsible for 35.46% of incidents, largely through political intimidation, coercion and interference with fundamental freedoms. It added that the Zimbabwe police force accounted for 21.12% of recorded violations.
The ZPP also accused local authorities, including city councils and school administrations, of contributing to the abuses.
Of the 3,205 victims, 1,651 were women (including 24 women with disabilities), while 1,554 were men (including 14 men with disabilities), highlighting the wide-reaching impact of these violations across different groups.
