Opponent Bobi Wine urges Ugandans to get up

Nearly two months after the presidential election, opponent Bobi Wine is asking the people to mobilize to contest the official results of the vote and the victory of outgoing President Yoweri Museveni. After withdrawing its appeal to the Supreme Court, the main opposition candidate now calls on the Ugandans to respond.

as reported from Kampala, Lucie Mouillaud

During his press conference, Bobi Wine again claimed to have won the presidential election in January last year. After declaring that he had withdrawn his appeal to the Supreme Court due to the bias of the judges, he now calls on Ugandans to examine the transparency of the vote themselves.

“I am here to announce again that we are alone. It is today for international law that we lodge our appeal. And the Ugandan people must now consider judging this case, “he said.

Bobi Wines’ party must publish all evidence submitted to the Supreme Court on its website. The opponent is now asking the Ugandans to mobilize without giving an exact date for the start of the movement.

“I urge you to stand up peacefully and unarmed to demonstrate against a regime that oppresses us. They oppressed us, they exploited us, and they enslaved us in our own country, ”he added.

At the end of his speech, Bobi Wine made several demands to the Ugandan authorities: the opening of an independent investigation into the election, the release of his party members still in detention, the return of people declared missing, and that he claims to have been kidnapped by security forces and stops lawsuits against civilians before the military court.

A day before the opponent’s press conference, Kampala police issued a statement warning activists: security forces “will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute” anyone involved in these events. “Illegal activities”.

We presented just before the nation proof that the January 14 election was massively rigged. From our vote (even with all ballot papers) we beat General Museveni by 54.19%, but he kept declaring himself! We are now back to THE PEOPLE OF UGANDA. #WeAreRemovingADictator pic.twitter.com/J9CbCOdVGU
