Flydubai Halts Mogadishu Flights Amid Rising Safety Fears

Mogadishu (AX) – Flydubai Airlines is hitting the brakes on its flights in and out of Mogadishu starting June 11, 2024. They passed a memo to partners spilling the beans.

The message read, “Sorry to say, but due to operational jitters, flydubai will halt its Mogadishu operations from June 11, 2024. Our final flight will hit the skies on June 10.”

The airline’s grapevine didn’t spell out the whys and wherefores, but the buzz is it boils down to security woes.

This isn’t flydubai’s maiden suspension rodeo. Back in April, they and some other airlines pulled their plugs on Mogadishu flights following the US Embassy’s security scare.

Yet, a few airlines bounced back to the Somali capital just days later.

Flydubai, hailing from Dubai in the UAE, kicked off its direct Mogadishu flights on March 9, 2023. It rolled out the red carpet for the first-ever direct air route linking Somalia with the UAE.
