Ethiopian military assaults TDF as Tigray battle takes form
NAIROBI, Kenya – Ethiopian National Defense Forces [ENDF] allegedly attacked the Tigray Defense Forces [TDF], in what could further escalate tensions in the Tigray region, and possibly derail efforts to restore order in Ethiopia.
Over the past nine months, ENDF and TDF have fought for control of Tigray, resulting in mass killings, population displacement, rape and torture. The two sides accused each other of atrocities in the Tigray region.
State media report that the TDF under the military command of General Tsadkan Gebretensay has been completely destroyed by the Ethiopian National Defense Forces. It is not known when the reported assault took place, but the ENDF has planned retaliatory attacks.
The ENDF has lost key strategic areas in Tigray and neighboring Afar and Amhara states, risking its imminent collapse. The TDF was approaching several regions of the country according to reports.
The TDF contingent with a large number of fighters titled Army 2 which was led by Major-General Yohannes and his subordinates Maesho Beyene and Kebede Fekadu and a mechanized chief, Colonel Gebreselasse, has been completely wiped out, announced the Communication Directorate. national defense forces.
TDF group forces which used the town of Gashena as a post and invaded parts from Wadala to the towns of Lalibela were crushed in coordinated counterattacks by the national army, regional special forces, Amhara militia and the peasants.
Scattered TDF forces in Meket, Muja, Nifas Mewcha and surrounding areas are being blown to pieces, as large numbers of artillery and military equipment have been captured by the military, media reported officials.
Elsewhere, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed praised Ethiopians for defending the Ethiopian National Defense Forces [ENDF]. Recently, he asked civilians to join the war, which risks plunging the country into civil war.
The prime minister said the Ethiopians have practically shown their solidarity with the national army which protects the nation. Thousands of people gathered in Addis Ababa to support the national army.
He further expressed his gratitude to all those who support the ongoing national efforts to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation. TDF insists that it will only agree to a ceasefire if certain conditions are met.
