Ethiopia Awaits Formal Somali Response on Troop Withdrawal

Nabiu Tedla, the ministry’s mouthpiece, reacted to claims by Somalia’s National Security Adviser about Ethiopian forces’ departure. Tedla underlined Ethiopia hasn’t caught wind of such a move nor received any official notification from Somali bigwigs.

Tedla stated there’s been zilch in terms of formal envoy chatter from Somalia on this front. He noted talks regarding who will sub in for the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) are yet to kick off, with ATMIS still in its starting phase.

Currently, over 8,000 Ethiopian warriors are hanging out in Somalia, thanks to a joint pact with the African Union’s temporary ATMIS gig. Nevertheless, Somalia, miffed over the maritime MoU between Ethiopia and North Western of Somalia, wants Ethiopian boots gone by late 2024.
