Breaking: Discovery of Missing 4-Year-Old Waeys Ali Mohamed’s Body in Hopkins Creek

The Hopkins Police Department spearheaded an extensive search operation, enlisting help from varied law enforcement agencies, local citizens, and volunteers. They deployed small drones, K-9 squads, search-and-rescue teams, and boats. Even though the creek’s current ran strong and high due to recent showers, searchers pushed on.

Hopkins Police Captain Craig Kreiling reported that Waeys’ remains were discovered at 10:40 a.m. on Monday by a volunteer. While the investigation continues, initial signs indicate that Waeys drowned after wandering off alone. Kreiling remarked, “This looks like a terrible, tragic mishap.”

The Somali community in Minnesota significantly contributed to the search. Community leader Abdirahman Mukhtar stressed the family’s anguish, highlighting Waeys’ vulnerability caused by his autism. Mukhtar called for community attentiveness and support in these dire circumstances.

Volunteer and father Thomas Knapper spoke of his emotional involvement, mirroring the community’s compassion and commitment. “I have two sons, and I can’t fathom losing them. Despite my disability, I had to help out,” Knapper shared.

Authorities urge citizens to stay alert and report any peculiar activities. “Familiarize yourself with your neighbors and take action if you notice anything unusual,” Kreiling suggested.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will ascertain Waeys’ precise cause of death. Meanwhile, the community mourns a young life’s loss and considers preventive measures for the future.
