a major lawsuit filed against Paul Rusesabagina and members of the FLN

On Monday at a press conference, the attorney general announced that he wanted Paul Rusesabagina, the film Hotel Rwanda’s hero, to file a lawsuit with members of the FLN, an armed group behind several attacks in Rwanda.

as reported from Kigali,

The prosecution finds that it is preferable to attach 19 files, all of which are directly or indirectly linked to attacks committed in 2018 in the Nyungwe region, and claimed by FLN.

Aimable Havugiyaremye, Attorney General, said: “We are detaining 16 FLN fighters and we want to present a joint indictment for these accused and Paul Rusesabagina. We would also ask that these cases be merged with Callixte Nsabimana and Herman Nsengimana. We believe that all 19 defendants should be prosecuted at the same time. ”

Merge files

Callixte Nsabimana, alias Sankara, is the former spokesman for FLN. He was arrested in 2019 under unclear circumstances while living outside Rwanda. His family claimed at the time that he had been kidnapped, just like Paul Rusesabagina today. The Rwandan authorities deny these two allegations.

By merging these cases the prosecution that the hero from Hotel Rwanda had a leading role within the FLN, which is denied by his political allies in the opposition platform in exile MRCD. The FLN was, in fact, the armed wing of the MRCD of which Paul Rusesabagina is a member.

In any event, the public prosecutor specified that the evidence gathered during a search of Paul Rusesabagin’s residence in Belgium would be presented at trial, suggesting that co – operation exists between the Belgian and Rwandan courts in this case. sag.
