the government condemns an attempted coup by François Bozizé

The Central African Minister of Communications and the government spokesman spoke on Saturday, December 19, in an official statement when an offensive by armed groups in the West on Friday forced the UN to deploy these peacekeepers. He condemns an attempted coup by former President François Bozizé, excluded from the December 27 presidential election.

as reported from Bangui, Charlotte cosset

In this official statement, the authorities condemn the “obvious intentions of marching on Bangui” among the armed groups and provoke the tendency to coup. If his name has so far only been quoted in a clue behind the organization of recent events, government spokesman Ange-Maxime Kazagui confirmed this Saturday morning that François Bozizé is still the originator of “this attempt to destabilize”. He assures us that the former head of state has secured the services of foreign mercenaries in exchange for the opportunity for them to plunder Bangui for 72 hours.

When I talk to you, François Bozizé Yangouvounda has left the city of Bossangoa where he was anchored and is currently on the outskirts of the city of Bossembélé with the clear intention of marching with his men on Bangui. This is obviously a coup attempt that the government wants to condemn during this election period when the government tries to consolidate democratic gains through the next consultation.

This press release comes at a time then since Friday movements of armed men are reported in the northwestern part of the countryProgress in particular in the cities of Bozoum, Bossemptélé, Yaloke and Bossembélé.

To keep the vote threatened?

Minusca and the Central African Security Forces intervened on Friday to deter these armed elements identified by the UN force belonging to the 3R, MPC and anti-Balaka groups. The government regrets the death of three gendarmes during these operations. In a joint statement a few days ago, these armed groups threatened to use “all means” against the government if it continued to organize a vote that they believe was manipulated.

Some candidates continue the campaign despite the complicated security context. For the first time new opposition alliance between Anicet-Georges Dologuélé and François Bozizé’s party(whose candidacy was annulled) the campaign fought hand in hand in Bangui on Friday afternoon.

We toured in certain parts of Bangui so that the people realized that we are together, that we are campaigning together.

But the question of the possibility of holding the election next Sunday, December 27, is beginning to arise.

Note that outgoing President Faustin-Archange Touadéra is also continuing his campaign. He has made several trips to the region and a big meeting is planned for this Saturday at the 20,000th place.
