Botswana’s President Condemns ‘Misguided’ G7 Actions

During a global summit in Paris, FRANCE 24 interviewed Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi, where $1 billion was pledged to boost vaccine production in Africa. Masisi emphasized the significance of Africa manufacturing its own vaccines and stressed the urgent need for substantial funding. He criticized the G7’s ruling that all diamonds sold in G7 nations must now be certified in Antwerp, Belgium, as part of sanctions against Russia. Masisi labeled this decision as “misguided” and argued that it undermines their ability to control their own resources. He questioned why producer countries like Botswana wouldn’t be trusted, highlighting that Botswana is the leading diamond producer worldwide in terms of value.
