indefinite strike at Oyo General Hospital, fortress

Agents from Edith Lucie Bongo Ondimba General Hospital in Oyo (North), the fortress of Congolese head of state Denis Sassou-Nguesso, have launched an indefinite strike since Friday, June 18. They require the authorities to pay at least seven months’ arrears on wages registered in this facility, the latest of this scale being introduced in the country.

as reported from Brazzaville, Loïcia Martial

Doctors, nurses and other workers at Edith Lucie Bongo Ondimba Hospital, the largest in the entire northern Congo area, have put away their dresses.

According to the representatives of the strikes, the movement is closely followed. Only the smallest service is provided. In all departments, which usually have at least nine employees each, only two officials change in 24 hours.

They exceed the poor working conditions and demand in their strike notice immediate and unconditional payment of a three-month wage agreement out of seven. To this must be added the signing of a memorandum of understanding which determines the payment schedule for the remaining wage agreements.

“We are in the fight against Covid. We are in the front line. It is curious that we are neglected and abandoned like this, lamented a union representative on condition of anonymity.

Before Edith Lucie Bongo Ondimba Hospital in Oyo, Brazzaville CHU, Dolisie General Hospital and Loandjili General Hospital in Pointe-Noire recently observed strike movements for almost the same demands. The authorities often use the economic crisis that is affecting the country to justify not paying amounts to workers.
