in Libreville, students’ odd job of funding

Several students in the country are deprived of their holiday. They have started small businesses to earn some money that allow them to support themselves from the beginning of the school year.

as reported from Libreville, Yves-Laurent Goma

Sporty building, Jovani Junior Kouamba sells used clothes at the Nzeng Ayong market in the sixth arrondissement of Libreville. He is a third-year student in the linguistics department: “I preferred to sell used clothes to make the family easier, because I come from a very poor family, we do not run on gold.” For him, it is therefore not a question of going on holiday. Holidays are for children who are well, everything else. For us proletarians, no vacation! ”

Next to him, several of his colleagues defy the sun and the rain: “The money is to set aside. It really is to ensure that the school year begins and everything that goes with it. I have to buy my necessities, my shoes and everything. If necessary, my parents will To finish. “

In the food department, Rachka desperately pays tribute to customers. She sells spices: “200 tomatoes”, she shouts. For her, too, this work will enable her to fund her studies: “It helps me pay for schooling, notebooks.”

The Nzeng Ayong roundabout is the main amusement park for young people in the neighborhood. This is where Malko Abeghe, a 2nd year law student, is a traveling photographer: “Without the scholarship, it’s complicated in Libreville. There are students like me!” I’m alone in Libreville, no parent, so I do. ”

The only problem for these resourceful people is that the police are chasing them for illegal occupation of the public sphere.
