Jerusalem – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that his country faces challenges similar to those faced by Somaliland, stating that both sides are seeking recognition.
Netanyahu made the remarks during a joint press conference with Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) following a meeting in Jerusalem, the city controlled by Israel.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said that just as Somaliland seeks international recognition, Israel is also campaigning for Jerusalem to be recognized as its capital.
“Just as Somaliland is seeking recognition, we too are seeking recognition of Jerusalem,” Netanyahu said while standing beside President Abdirahman Cirro.
The statement comes as Israel has long conducted diplomatic efforts to persuade countries around the world to recognize Jerusalem as its official capital. However, most countries have not accepted that position.
Most countries and international organizations continue to insist that the final status of Jerusalem should be resolved through negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, since the city holds unique religious and political significance.
Although Israel has established cooperation agreements and diplomatic relations with various countries, many states have refrained from moving their embassies to Jerusalem or opening embassies there.
Summary: Netanyahu compared Somaliland’s struggle for international recognition to Israel’s effort to gain wider international recognition of Jerusalem as its capital, noting that both face resistance from much of the international community.
