Mogadishu (AX) — Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre unveiled the country’s most extensive Emergency and Trauma Center at Madiina Hospital in Mogadishu on Tuesday. This marks a significant leap forward in the national healthcare scene.

This cutting-edge medical hub can serve 200 patients at once and features specialized zones for patient care, urgent treatment, and childbirth.
The center is anticipated to serve as a vital resource, particularly for Somali troops and civilians embroiled in ongoing conflicts with insurgent factions.
Triggering a remarkable community response, the center’s development was funded by Somali citizens following the catastrophic Zoobe Two bombing in October 2022, which took more than 100 lives.
The National Emergency Committee spearheaded this initiative, partnering with federal ministries, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), and grassroots civil organizations.
Prime Minister Barre emphasized the administration’s resolve to bolster Somalia’s medical infrastructure, spotlighting additional recent ventures like an updated blood bank, an emergency response unit, and several new health centers.
Reaffirming his administration’s pledge, Barre vowed to finish constructing and furnishing the country’s largest hospital to ensure wide-ranging medical services for the Somali populace.
