Closing visit of the Joint Delegation of the President of the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Ambassador Gilberto Da Piedade Veríssimo, and the UN Secretary-General for Central Africa, François Louncény Fall. Following their mandate, these senior representatives believe that the country can hold elections on 27 December.

“Everything must be done to avoid violence”

The latter could discuss with François Bozizé. Currently in Bossangoa, the latter has justified his trips to the provinces to support candidates for the team’s election to his party. And at his meeting with the armed groups, he said that he simply wanted to visit the leaders of the armed groups in the crossed areas.

“And the International Committee urges that this election take place under better conditions for peace and security. It is the same message we sent to the various representatives of the armed groups by asking them for their cooperation during the campaign and the whole electoral process in the areas under their control so that the elections take place in the most beautiful way that would give the Central African people the chance to freely choose their leaders, insists the UN Secretary – General’s Special Representative for Africa freely.

Observation mission on 18 December

Ambassador Gilberto Da Piedade Veríssimo reviewed the decisions in Libreville at the end of November. ECCAS will finally appoint a mediator who will be the Head of State of ECCAS. Discussions are still ongoing. An observation mission will arrive in Bangui on December 18, consisting of 30 observers, 3 for each member state, and will be led by a former head of state from the region.
