Somalia’s President Extends Congratulations to Trump on US Presidential Election Win
MOGADISHU, Somalia – In a warm gesture, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia shared enthusiastic congratulations with Donald Trump on his US presidential triumph, highlighting a commitment to bolster ties with a key ally.
Trump was on the cusp of clinching victory in the pivotal 2024 elections, having skillfully navigated battleground states such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina. Exit surveys suggest triumphs in Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Michigan, areas where VP Kamala Harris had her hopes.
Joining the chorus of global recognition, Hassan Sheikh expressed high hopes for collaborating with Trump, focusing on peace and security, which remain cornerstones for Somalia’s progress.
“Congratulations to you, President-elect Donald Trump, on such a momentous electoral victory,” he remarked. “I eagerly anticipate reinforcing our nations’ robust alliance to foster peace, security, and mutual prosperity.”
After facing defeat to Joe Biden in 2020, attributed to alleged electoral malpractice, Trump faced criticism for perpetuating ‘disinformation’. His tenure concluded amid criminal proceedings tied to the Capitol Hill uproar causing widespread havoc.
In a controversial late-term move in 2021, Trump advocated for the US military withdrawal from Somalia, yet the Democratic Senate later counteracted this. US troops continue instructor roles with Somalia’s Danab Special forces.
Worldwide, congratulations shot forth, although countries with tense American relations reacted with more measured responses.
