According to a government press release, the appointment was made in line with constitutional provisions and came after consultations with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The statement did not disclose the reasons for the removal of the former minister.
Prime Minister Hamza called on the incoming minister to perform his responsibilities with speed and commitment as the administration works through a growing list of national priorities.
Abdifitah previously held the post of Deputy Minister of Defense before he was dismissed on May 21, 2025, during a cabinet reshuffle that also brought Idris Osman Haji Ali into the role. Officials did not give a reason for that change, though Abdifitah later told the media he had stepped aside to continue his studies.
He now serves as a member of the House of the People in Somalia’s Federal Parliament.
