The pledge came after Somali Correctional Service Commander Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Hamud met with Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu on Tuesday.
Their discussions centered on expanding bilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on modernizing Somalia’s prison system and building the capacity of its correctional institutions.
Wang said Beijing would furnish modern equipment designed to improve conditions and security inside detention centers, although no further details were released about the assistance.
Hamud welcomed the commitment and expressed appreciation for China’s ongoing support to Somali state institutions and its wider development efforts.
Both sides also agreed to move quickly on the measures discussed, underscoring a deepening partnership in justice and corrections within the broader Somalia-China relationship.
