Anti-Monusco protests continue

Despite their ban by the governor of northern Kivu, these protest movements, which have been launched since April 5, are not weakening, especially in Beni. Yesterday, protesters gathered on the streets of this city. The protesters condemn what they call the weakness of the UN force in the face of repeated killings.

As on previous occasions, Tuesday’s demonstration was short-lived. The police intervene. Tear gas is fired and the protesters disperse. They say they are determined and promise to come back the next day.

For their part, the authorities consider these young people to be instrumental. Some even fear that the protesters will be infiltrated by armed men. While waiting for the calm, the schools remain closed and most companies as well.
