Mogadishu (AX) – Somalia’s National Security and Intelligence Agency (NISA), teaming up with global allies, took down 40 members of al-Shabab and injured 29 in a military action across Middle Shabelle and Galgadud, as declared by the agency on Saturday.
Among those slain was Moalim Aarow, a principal leader of the group and a major architect behind numerous assaults in these regions, the statement revealed.
“Over a 24-hour span, we launched an offensive against al-Shabab strongholds located in the Yaaqle area of Middle Shabelle and rural stretches of Galgadud, cutting off the group’s routes and obliterating military stockpiles,” the announcement stated.
NISA asserted that the militant group’s capacity to navigate these areas has been significantly thwarted.
This latest mission unfolded mere hours following the Ministry of Information’s announcement that Somali military personnel neutralized 30 al-Shabab operatives and injured many more in Qeycad, an area nestled in southern Mudug, after picking up on intelligence about the group’s maneuvers there.
Somali officials emphasized the operation was executed based on crucial intelligence concerning al-Shabab movements within the locale.
