The worst espresso habits for a flat abdomen, specialists say
Coffee has a way of filtering into a person’s morning routine until it becomes a habit. And for many, “habit” may not even be a bold enough word. Call it what you will — ritual, addiction, obsession — a cross-border caffeine addiction is generally considered manageable, if not beneficial. Several studies (perhaps conducted by hopeful coffee lovers) point to how Java can be healthy. As we have reported before, coffee can help you live longer, give you better eyesight, even increase your metabolism.
“Caffeine can improve weight loss,” he says Trista Best, MPH, RD, LD. “Coffee can be beneficial by giving the body antioxidants, acting as a diuretic and improving bowel movements in people with digestive problems. It can also help increase energy, which is a necessary factor in exercise, which can lead to weight loss.”
But the potential health benefits depend entirely on how you take your cup of Joe.
We are not here to be poetic about the right and wrong way to consume coffee; If you have an affinity for enjoying frappuccino-flavored funnel cake, who are we to stop you? But if you want coffee to lose weight, you may want to pay attention to how you take it. We talked to a couple of our favorite dietitians and found out the worst coffee habits to avoid when making coffee for a flat stomach. Add sugar
Coffee itself is naturally rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory, but the addition of sugar denies the inherent positive. An over-sugared coffee becomes inflammatory, and the nutritional deficiency of the extra sweetness quickly outweighs all the benefits that caffeine can offer. Plus, som Clara Lawson, RDN, explains, the amount of coffee that many Americans drink in a day would easily lead to maximizing recommended sugar intake, if that coffee is too sweet.
“Women should stick to 6 teaspoons of sugar and men should stick to 9 teaspoons a day to maintain a healthy body weight and prevent disease,” Lawson says. “So if you drink 3-4 cups of coffee along with artificial sweeteners, you greatly destroy your body.”
The solution here? If you do not want to sacrifice adding sugar to your coffee, just be aware of your sugar intake in addition to the java habit.
Add other “fine ingredients”
If you are involved in the weak life (say for example that the above-mentioned funnel cake Allstar calls your name) it is okay, but you can not trust that your cup of coffee will lead you to a flat stomach.
“Fancy forms of coffee lattes and mochas have a very high sugar content that can exceed your daily calorie intake,” Lawson explains. “The finest ingredients that are worst for your stomach include high sugar, whipped cream and chocolate syrup.”
But fortunately, Lawson has a simple solution.
“For a slimmer stomach, it is recommended to make your coffee at home so that you can avoid all these fine ingredients that will eventually accumulate and increase your waistline,” she says.

Add cream
Coffee, as we currently consume it, is so insoluble from cream and sugar that one is seldom offered without the other. But just as sugar can mess with your ever-growing abs, creamers are likely to do the same.
“By adding high-calorie and fat creams, you increase the likelihood that your regular coffee drink will cause weight gain,” says Trista Best, MPH, RD, LD.
In addition to just packing the calories, many popular creams use questionable ingredients, which take a fairly natural beverage – coffee – and make it a more artificial and therefore less healthy beverage.
To wean yourself off the cream, you can start by replacing it with milk.
“Taking coffee with skim milk or whole milk only gives up to about 30 to 40 calories, while taking it with cream gives you about 120 calories,” says Lawson.
Or you can even replace it with one of these 12 healthy new coffee creams on shelves.
Drinks only sweetened / flavored coffee
The more you drink sweet and flavored coffee, the more the sweet and dimensional taste profile becomes part of your morning habit. As Best explains, “the worst coffee habit is for weight loss and getting a flat stomach to rely on sweet and flavored coffee.”
If you can not drink coffee without taste or sugar, you may have an extra risk of regretting your other hard work in the kitchen and gym.
“These extra ingredients only serve to increase calories and fat,” says Best. “It is best to choose black coffee or naturally sweetened varieties.”
A natural sweetener that we are particularly fond of, which can also help flatten the stomach even more, is cinnamon. Try it next time you brew a pot.
Pair coffee with dessert
This popular after-dinner duo is quite iconic, but unfortunately not as healthy. Similarly, relying on coffee with cream and sugar bad habits, so that your brain can associate coffee with sweet snacks can be detrimental to your pursuit of a flat stomach.
“While pairing your coffee with pastries or other desserts does not hurt your flat stomach if you do it sometimes, if it’s something you do often it’s one of the worst things you can do to your stomach,” says Lawson.
The most safe way to avoid these weight gain risks is, of course, to switch to black coffee and drink it with other nutritional dishes.
