Scotland’s Morgan Optimistically Declares ‘Stranger Things Have Occurred’ About Possible Upset Against Germany

Lewis Morgan holds firm belief in Scotland’s ability to stun Germany in their Euro 2024 curtain-raiser in Munich this Friday.

Under Steve Clarke’s direction, the Scottish team heads to Munich, aiming to notch their first win against Germany since 1999, after stumbling in the last four bouts.

Initially overlooked, Morgan joined Scotland’s preliminary roster following Ben Doak’s exit due to injury and secured his place among the final 25 travelers.

The winger, now with the New York Red Bulls, marked his international return with a cameo in last week’s 2-2 stalemate against Finland at Hampden Park—his third national appearance and first in over six years.

This season, the 27-year-old has clocked nine goals across 16 matches within MLS’s Eastern Conference. Morgan is optimistic about Scotland’s odds in kicking off their Group A challenge triumphantly.

“Absolutely, football’s filled with surprises,” Morgan commented on the prospect of an upset against the hosts.

“With the calibre we possess in this squad, all performing at their pinnacle globally, we stand more than a fair shot,” he asserted.

“But achieving that hinges on us embracing our strongest selves and adhering to our strategic plan,” he added.

Post-Germany, Scotland will go up against Switzerland, then wrap up the group stage versus Hungary in Stuttgart, eyeing their premier progression beyond the initial rounds of a major tournament.
