Cristiano Ronaldo thrives on netting goals, and according to Pepe, his revival of form is just around the corner after failing to score thus far for Portugal at Euro 2024.
The venerated Ballon d’Or laureate hasn’t managed a goal in the initial three matches of Group F, despite Portugal claiming the top spot under Roberto Martinez’s leadership.
Adding to the gravity of his dry spell, Ronaldo hasn’t found the back of the net in his past seven international caps at major tournaments—a stark record for such a prodigious striker.
Since his last World Cup goal against Ghana in 2022, Ronaldo has unleashed 19 attempts across both European and global stages without success.
Yet, Pepe remains optimistic, asserting ahead of Monday’s clash with Slovenia that Ronaldo is on the brink of reclaiming his scoring prowess.</ in Friday’s media gathering.
“Cristiano’s existence is intertwined with scoring goals. Yet, have you observed his unyielding dedication to our squad on the field? It astonishes me,” admitted Pepe.
Despite nearing 40, Ronaldo still logs the most minutes in their squad.
“He’s excelling. He’s primed to shine in the Euros’ crucial bouts. He’ll undoubtedly bring us ecstasy,” Pepe added confidently.
The duo had previously hoisted the Euro 2016 trophy together, with Pepe recently marking history as the tournament’s eldest participant at 41.
“Being part of this squad is an honor for me. Football passion fuels me,” Pepe shared. “It all boils down to the zeal I channel into every move, be it during training or matchday.”
Although spectators often speculate about his retirement, Pepeclears the air on any such thoughts. He focuses relentlessly on immediate responsibilities rather than distant futures.
“Retirement isn’t on my mind yet,” he pointed out. “I obsess over forthcoming trainings and matches that demand my presence and strategy for Portugal. For now, that’s where my priorities lie.”
