Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has declared Sergio Aguero “irreplaceable” after confirming that the player will leave the club at the end of the season.
Both the club and the player confirmed earlier this week that he would leave Etihad Stadium after ten trophy-laden years when he became the club’s best goal scorer.
Attention immediately shifted to who could replace Aguero at the club, with City linked to strikers such as Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, but Guardiola has insisted the striker is “irreplaceable”.

Speaking to the media after the announcement, Guardiola said via Sky Sports: “We still have two months ahead, and today I saw the training how brilliant he was and his commitment.
“Sergio is irreplaceable. I can say in numbers he can be interchangeable, it is not easy when you see more than 360 games played and more than 250 goals, the number of titles.
“So it’s the legend, the best striker this club has ever had over this century over the years, but is irreplaceable in the souls, in the hearts, in our fans, our people, of the players who played next to him and all the managers who worked with him. .

“He’s an amazing person, a human being, and I’m pretty sure that if his mind is still as aggressive as he is, he can extend his career longer and longer than maybe two or three or four or five years.”
Aguero is on track to win a fifth Premier League title with City and could also add his only FA Cup and five League Cup wins during his time at the club later this season as the club chase an unmatched quadruple.
The 33-year-old does not miss suitors in the summer, and Barcelona leads the competition for his signature.
