Marc Guehi has expressed his firm belief in Gareth Southgate’s leadership as England gears up to tackle Slovakia in their forthcoming round of 16 clash.
Despite a lacklustre performance resulting in a nil-nil standoff with Slovenia in Cologne, England topped Group C with a five-point lead over Denmark.
However, at the conclusion of the match, jeers from the English contingent targeted Southgate, reflecting their discontent.
Nevertheless, Guehi, who has consistently started in Germany, has proven to be a beacon of excellence for the team, melding seamlessly with his teammate John Stones.
“Gareth’s track record shines brightly,” declared the 23-year-old Guehi. “The squad’s morale is high, and our unity is strong under his management. His faith in me and my debut under his supervision are something I deeply value.”
The surprising victory of Georgia over Portugal ensured that England avoided the Netherlands, placing them on a perceived easier path in the tournament.
With heavyweights like Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, and Belgium on the opposite half, the path seems clear for England to possibly end a 58-year trophy drought.
However, the Crystal Palace defender emphasized the challenges ahead, stating, “No matchups are simple at this juncture. Each team presents significant barriers.”
