Gibraltar Halts Slide with Stalwart 0-0 Draw Against Wales

Wales encountered a stalemate, zeroing out in a subdued match against Gibraltar last Thursday.

Gibraltar halted their dismal streak of defeats following a nil-nil standoff with the higher-ranked Welsh squad.

The team managed by Julio Cesar Ribas hadn’t savored victory since their win over Andorra in November 2022.

Since their last triumph, they faced a downslide, losing 13 consecutive matches with a cumulative score of 0-50.

However, they displayed formidable defense against Wales’ youthful lineup, almost conceding when Josh Sheehan’s curving corner clanged against the crossbar – the closest encounter of the match.

Wales amassed 16 attempts at goal and boasted an expected goal stat of 1.13 but hardly vexed Gibraltar’s keeper, Jaylan Hankins.

This draw marked an extension of Wales’ longest undefeated spree under Robert Page, mirroring their previous stretch from September 2021 to March 2022.

On foreign turf under Page, Wales has clinched only three out of 14 clashes, with minimal high-scoring games.

Charlie Crew got on the pitch at the 78th minute, matching the youngest Welsh player record set by his Leeds United colleague Ethan Ampadu.
