Atalanta Secures Everton Star Defender Godfrey as Newest Europa League Champion

Ben Godfrey has bid adieu to Everton to ink a deal with Serie A titans and current Europa League victors Atalanta for a cool €10 million.

Atalanta, the reigning champs of the Europa League, have snagged defender Ben Godfrey from Everton.

The acquisition cost the Italian squad a smidge over €10 million.

After four seasons with the Toffees, the 26-year-old England international, who earned his caps in 2021, is leaving. He initially moved to Everton from Norwich City in 2020.

As a dynamic defender, Godfrey shone at Goodison Park during his debut season under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti, but his spark dimmed in later years.

From center-back to full-back, Godfrey’s adaptability was his hallmark. He initially wowed fans under Ancelotti but struggled to maintain peak performance.

Via his official X profile, Godfrey expressed his sentiments: “Joining in 2020, I was warmly welcomed by all—supporters, team, and staff alike.

“Precious memories were made here, and I’ll forever treasure my time with this club. Now, I embark on a new quest. Thank you for your steadfast support. I wish you all the best.”

In his last season at Everton, Godfrey participated in 15 Premier League matches. He triumphed in 66 of his 126 duels, intercepted 16 passes, and was successful in 20 out of 30 tackle attempts.
