surprisingly, the presidential party wins the regional elections
The ruling party, the RDPC, won the regional elections in Cameroon on 6 December. He was particularly affected by the boycott of this election by the opposition’s major political parties.
as reported from Yaoundé, Polycarp Essomba
Unsurprisingly, it was the Democratic rally of the Cameroonian people (RDPC) that emerged victorious from these first regional election with an overwhelming majority in nine of the ten regional councils.
CPDM was named the winner even before the vote started.December 6 poll most recently by Elecam, the body responsible for organizing the election, only confirmed this trend.
The ruling party has even succeeded in sowing problems in other political formations by expanding its base into one of its competitors, the Cameroonian National Reconciliation Party of Cabral Libii, whose advisers voted for the CPDM, resulting in internal sanctions.
The opposition boycotted the vote
The only region that avoids CPDM influence is Adamaoua, which will be led by the UNDP led by Bello Bouba Maigari, whose party is a member of the president’s majority. All other competitors in these regions, ie about ten political parties, have practically calculated.
The CPDM thus completes its dominance over all political bodies in the country with an already overwhelming majority in the parliament and in the municipal council. It should be noted, however, that the two largest opposition political parties, the SDF and the MRC, did not participate in these elections.
