Mogadishu (AX) – In a decisive sweep, Somali National Army (SNA) troops, along with international allies and local supporters, took down over 50 al-Shabab fighters in the Galgadud region, as revealed by the Somali Ministry of Information on Saturday.

The collaborative effort focused on obliterating al-Shabab positions deep within the wooded terrains between Bidda Issa and Gerile in Elder district, dealing a severe blow to their operations.

“Our armed forces with international backing launched an assault on the forest hideout of the Khawarij militants, resulting in significant casualties and the destruction of their base,” the statement declared. The offensive also defused a vehicle bomb intended for attacks on civilians and security personnel.

Operations extended to Hussein Agay and Ali Yabal, smashing more militant strongholds, the ministry further detailed.

In another campaign, the Somali forces eliminated 24 al-Shabab members and injured 30 in the Lower Shabelle area. Orchestrated by the SNA’s seventh brigade, this mission set its sights on areas like Kaliga, Libahale, Kaharow, Doonka, and Bululow, where militants had been massing.

These strategic military maneuvers align with the ongoing National Consultative Council (NCC) assembly in Mogadishu, where dialogue among federal and regional leaders is centered on escalating the fight against al-Shabab threats.
