In Nigeria, another major kidnapping took place on Sunday at a Koran school in the state of Niger, northwest of the country, where 200 children went to school. Young people stopped traffic on a busy road in the state of Zamfara on Monday morning to protest against relentless bandit attacks. Protesters attacked public vehicles on the road before being dispersed by police.

According to figures revealed by the authorities of this state in northwestern Nigeria, more than 2,600 people were killed in this region between 2011 and 2019. In addition, nearly two million euros were paid in ransom by the Zamfara state to free victims of kidnapping in the last decade.

Last week, Monday, May 24, hundreds of protesters had already blocked the highway connecting the capital Abuja to the city of Kaduna to protest the rise of kidnappings in the region.

They had set up barricades and set fire to a police station on the border with the Niger State. It is in this region with many students at a Koranic school was caught this weekend.
