South Africa 'Failing to Crack Down On Anti-Immigrant Violence'
South Africa Accused of Failing to Crack Down on Anti-Immigrant Violence

A fresh flashpoint over immigration is unfolding today after anti-immigration groups declared a deadline for undocumented foreign nationals to leave the country, prompting planned marches in major cities and a firm warning from police against any form of violence.

Demonstrations are scheduled to take place in Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Emalahleni. Ahead of the gatherings, police issued a clear message that they will respond decisively to unlawful acts, saying there will be “no tolerance for vigilantism, no tolerance for xenophobic or any type of violence, no tolerance for intimidation…”.
