Liberian Senators Propose Suspension of Cargo Firm Amid Drug Investigation

A pivotal development in the $19 million cocaine seizure investigation has emerged, as a significant person of interest has requested witness protection and consented to cooperate with authorities.

In a related move, two senators have proposed a temporary halt to the cargo-handling contract with GLS Menzies, the company implicated in the investigation of its senior managers. This incident, which unfolded earlier this month, has swiftly escalated into one of the nation’s most significant criminal probes.

“When those in charge of safeguarding our national cargo channels are under scrutiny, it is prudent to suspend their operations until the situation is clarified,” the senators stated. They emphasized that their recommendation should not be interpreted as an assertion of guilt.

In response to the gravity of the situation, the government has introduced a Joint National Security Investigation that encompasses various agencies, including the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, the Liberia National Police, and the National Security Agency.
