What began as a show of force in an anti-immigration campaign was, at moments, marred by disorder as protest organisers appeared to lose their grip, with sporadic reports of looting, vandalism, arson and assault in several areas, GroundUp reports.
The demonstrations were held on the 30 June “deadline” declared by the anti-immigration movement March and March for the South African government to take action against illegal immigration, and for illegal immigrants to leave the country.
