Inner last-minute efforts to avoid wasting Somalia from plunging into civil conflict

MOGADISHU, Somalia – All stakeholders and stakeholders in Somalia are involved in last – minute efforts to save the country from jumping into an unprecedented political crisis following delayed elections, which are due to take place in December 2020.

With the term of office of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo already expired and even the mandate of Parliament, efforts have been made to bring all parties together for the sake of stability and unity. Farmajo was due to leave office on February 8 this year.

But even after the expiration, Farmajo has yet to organize elections in the country, leading to suspicion from members of the opposition, who accuse him of a plan to extend his term through parliament, albeit constitutionally.

However, a number of meetings have been held over the last 24 hours with the aim of resolving the dead end, which threatens to throw the country into an unprecedented constitutional crisis. The meetings bring together several stakeholders.

On Tuesday, President of the State of Northeastern State Somalia Said Abdullahi Deni and President of the State of Jubaland Somalia Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe received representatives of the international community in Mogadishu as part of the efforts to reach a compromise.

The meeting focused on election issues, with the governments of Northeastern State and Jubaland sharing their views on the best way to conduct the election conference. The two states accuse the Somali federal government of failing to implement the agreement before the September 17 elections.

Earlier, international partners had met with Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble in his office following the planned FGS-FMS summit, which could not start on Tuesday. It displayed a deep-rooted electoral lock that could throw Somalia into chaos and insecurity.

Also, President Abdiaziz Laftagareen of Southwest and House Speaker Mohamed Mursal met on Tuesday to iron out disputes between them. The two, who come from the southwestern state, have had superiority struggles that have threatened Farmajo’s plans to extend the charge.

Elsewhere, Fahad Yassin, the NISA chief, the prime minister and his close aide sent Abdirahman Dhere as mediator between Abdiaziz and Mursal. MP Abdirahman Dhere, as many observers call Fahads’ Mr. Fix it ‘was recently in Beled Hawo to receive former Jubaland Minister Abdirashid Janan.
