Mogadishu (AX) — Saudi Arabia has renewed its backing for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as diplomatic and security pressures continue to ripple across the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.

Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan discussed the issue in a phone call Monday, officials said, reaffirming Somalia’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

The two ministers rejected any actions that could undermine Somalia’s security and stability.

They also reviewed Somalia-Saudi Arabia relations and emphasized the need to protect international waterways and freedom of navigation.

In a statement, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations.

“His Royal Highness reiterated the Kingdom’s unwavering support for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and political independence,” the ministry said.

The ministry said both sides underscored the importance of safeguarding international maritime security and maintaining freedom of navigation.

The call comes as Somalia continues to seek regional and international support for its sovereignty amid heightened diplomatic and security tensions in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region.
