Mahmoud underscored the need to build on the long-standing partnership between Somalia and Egypt and to widen cooperation in the defense sector.

Abdelsattar reiterated Cairo’s pledge to stand with Somalia, with particular emphasis on helping improve security, stabilize the country and strengthen the Somali National Army’s operational capabilities.

The Somali commander also expressed appreciation to the Egyptian government for its continued support, especially in defense cooperation, training and efforts to build the capacity of Somali forces.

The meeting comes as Somalia presses ahead with efforts to strengthen its national army and take on a larger share of security responsibilities across the country.
