An Ethiopian Air Force military helicopter met with disaster on Saturday in Bahir Dar, according to various news organizations.
Details remain murky about whether this chopper carried military brass or government officials, revealed Borkena News. Questions loom large.
The unfortunate event unfolded midday around Belay Zeleke International Airport, stationed in Bahir Dar—the core city of Amhara’s lovely region.
One worker at the airport mentioned to Meseret Media that the crash indeed happened, but no one knows more. The silence is palpable.
Presently, no concrete info about casualties or why the aircraft went down is at hand.
Consequently, flights in and out of Bahir Dar—including Ethiopian Airlines transport—have halted. Both passengers and inside sources confirmed this freeze in operations.
Oddly enough, the government hasn’t yet chimed in with any official comment. The silence is deafening.
Curiously, Friday saw a visit from Field Marshal Berhanu Jula to Bahir Dar, reportedly to hobnob with local defense folks. Proof in the pudding came in the form of state media showing him wrapped in a ceremonial Kaba—a traditional vestment.
The peculiar comment, “A miracle occurs before the vestment even leaves Berhanu Jula’s shoulder,” from Ethio News quoting Asres Mare Damte—who leads the political arm of the Fano forces in Gojjam—has everyone scratching heads. Its meaning hangs in the air.
Add to this tangled story that eye-witnesses site sightings of two military helicopters buzzing around diligently for the past couple of days. Coincidence or conspiracy? Time may tell.
