Somali Families Gain Support Through Initiatives by Qatar Charity
On Monday, it was revealed that Qatar Charity (QC) has rolled out a multitude of economic empowerment initiatives, targeting the 150 most impoverished families scattered across the diverse landscape of Somalia.
These initiatives, all designed to boost income, encompass a range of resources. From livestock, including cows and sheep, to three-wheeled transport carts and convenient small retail outlets. Women have particularly benefited from sewing machines, while support for agriculture and handicrafts rounds out the array of assistance offered. Abd al-Fattah Adam Moalim, who heads up QC’s operations in Somalia, highlighted how these projects are crucial for reinforcing communal solidarity and shielding families from falling into unemployment’s grasp or the pit of poverty.
As beneficiaries came forward, their gratitude shone through. They shared how these initiatives have become their lifeline, marking the beginning of improved circumstances.
Hodan Abdi Khalif, a recipient from Kismayo, shared her story: “The last drought took all my livestock, leaving me desperate to provide for my family. Qatar Charity came through, blessing me with sheep and a fresh chance at livestock farming. I now see hopeful prospects for my family’s future.”
Mohamed Abdi Hassan reflected, “Securing a steady income seemed like a stretch before. But with Qatar Charity’s help, opening my grocery store has made it possible to meet my family’s essential needs.” Throughout 2023, QC has executed about 560 economic empowerment projects across Somalia, touching the lives of roughly 3,350 people, per the release.
