IGAD Executive Secretary Travels to Mogadishu to Bolster Collaboration and Address Regional Concerns

Mogadishu (AX) — Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), landed in Mogadishu on Monday for high-stakes powwows with Somali leaders.

Somalia’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Moallin Fiqi, along with other dignitaries, greeted the IGAD delegation upon their arrival at Aden Adde Airport. The visit aims to bolster ties between IGAD and Somalia, honing in on critical matters like regional security, climate change, and the inception of a Blue Economy Centre of Excellence in Somalia.

Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the dialogue would also touch on other regional development ventures, with both parties eager to fortify relationships across various sectors.

This trip coincides with a significant milestone: Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Djibouti entered into a fresh pact just a day prior, revamping the IGAD Regional Organization and underscoring a renewed commitment to regional unity.
