Tottenham are not prepared to sanction sales

Exclusive – Tottenham Hotspur have made it clear to Harry Kane and his representatives that the only deal they are willing to discuss this summer is a new contract.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are clubs that have all had a long-standing interest in Kane, whose future at Spurs has been the subject of increased uncertainty in recent weeks.

There are concerns that the England captain is frustrated by the lack of progress at Spurs in recent years and 90 minutes understand that he has expressed these concerns.

Kane is annoyed at the prospect of not playing Champions League football for the second season in a row, but the bigger source of his frustration is that the club fails to meet a serious challenge for the Premier League title – Spurs were in a title race, a top four spot would come anyway.

Spurs reached second place in 2016/17 but despite reaching the Champions League final in 2019, they have gone backwards since then and finished with fewer and fewer points each season.

Kane has been in talks with Spurs over a potential salary increase for the long-term contract, worth more than £ 200,000 a week, he signed in 2018, but his adviser has also made it clear to chairman Daniel Levy that they would like the club to consider all bids. they get this summer.

However, Tottenham’s sources have told 90 minutes that Levy has been clear that he does not intend to listen to offers. Spurs are instead convinced that Kane will stay and the club’s attitude is that he is not for sale, even if an offer of 150 million pounds would come in.

The high figure may have previously tempted a buyer, but the loss of revenue caused by the global coronavirus pandemic has seen transfer budgets cut across the board – meaning a deal for all clubs is simply not feasible.

The reason why Kylian Mbappe could go for less than £ 150 million this summer is that he will soon have only one year left on his contract and will leave PSG with some options if he wants to leave. But Kane still has three more years left on his deal and if Levy and Spurs are convinced he will not be sold, there is very little the player or his entourage can do to change anything.

Levy has at least tried to assure Kane that things will improve at Spurs, although the progress made may not be under current head coach Jose Mourinho. The three-time Premier League winning job is far from certain – due to the club’s results in November – with Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers among the leading candidates to take over.
