During the protests on July 10, 11 and 12, fourteen people died. Independent investigations into the UN mission in Mali (Minusma) and the Human Rights Watch Organization have shown that the police use disproportionate amounts of force. Most deaths were managed.
Although some witnesses have been interviewed by Malian justice, the investigation seems to be stalled.
At the end of the morning we met Mohamed Doumbia, father of one of the victims. At the age of 16, his son was killed a few meters from his home in the same district of Badalabougou, while not participating in the demonstrations. The feelings are still alive at home and above all he claims that he has not received any support or information from the government. He, too, demands justice to finally mourn.
At 14:00 local time, officials will take a seat on the stage. A speech by Imam Dicko is planned, a speech is expected, because Imam Dicko is one of the important personalities who still demands justice for the victims of the demonstrations on 10, 11 and 12 July 2020.
