the bishops warn the presidency of conflicts between breeders and farmers
The bishops are asking the head of state to intervene to put an end to the conflicts between herdsmen and farmers who have claimed dozens of lives since the harvests began two months ago. The phenomenon has been going on for several years and undermines the peaceful coexistence between breeders and farmers without the public authorities succeeding in stopping it.
as reported from Ndjamena, Madjiasra Nako
For two months, the same scenario has been repeated daily. A field waiting to be harvested has been destroyed by herds and caused a fight between farmers and breeders. According to Father Séverin, Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference, weapons of war are used during clashes between peasants:
“There are individuals who will come out of Kalashnikov, the family, it’s scary. We have seen damage to our health centers. The people who die who are injured are Chadians. ”
All paths have been explored without results. Yet farmers and growers make up 80% of the Chadian population. The concern is to see this conflict escalate. That is why the bishops are now urging the head of state:
“All other solutions have already shown their limits. We have seen the commitment that the head of state invested in Kourouma’s anger in Mali everywhere. But this phenomenon, which is a phenomenon to live together, if it invests in it, we are convinced that there will be a solution. ”
According to experts, the conflict between herdsmen and farmers has already led to more than a hundred deaths throughout Chad.
