President Mohamud Advocates for Unity and Commits to Open Dialogue with Leaders of Northeastern State and Jubbaland
Mogadishu (AX) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reiterated his administration’s dedication to engaging in dialogue with the leaders of Northeastern State and Jubbaland to mend ongoing political rifts.
In a 25-minute discourse on Tuesday evening to lawmakers and regional heads, President Mohamud underscored the significance of harmony and collaboration as the National Consultative Council (NCC) meetings press on in Mogadishu.
“We intend to converse with our brethren holding dissenting views. Should they extend an invitation, we’re all ears; if not, the door here remains open,” he expressed. “This is a golden moment for our people to achieve their dreams of unity.”
Amid the NCC gathering, which has yet to align on national concerns due to Northeastern State and Jubbaland’s persistent abstention, the president sought a dedicated parliamentary session to tackle legislative hurdles.
Mohamud lauded the three regional leaders who took part in the NCC talks, concentrating on schemes to free areas under al-Shabab’s control and to prepare for upcoming elections.
His administration plans to pursue parliamentary consent on vital statutes, notably covering the election process, regulations on political entities, and laws concerning the Election Commission, aiming for the landmark of one-person, one-vote elections by 2026.
