Kenyan Malcolm Bidali in custody for three

Malcolm Bidali, a Kenyan citizen, has been detained in Qatar for three weeks and the charges against him are still unknown. This security guard wrote under a pseudonym about the fate of migrant workers in the country.

“Twenty nights of detention free of charge”. On his twitter account, Vani Saraswathi counts the number of days since Malcolm Bidali’s arrest. She is the editor-in-chief and project director of Migrant-Rights, a migrant rights organization based in the Gulf countries. It is especially on this site that the Kenyan wrote under the pseudonym “Noah”.

20 nights imprisoned without charge. @ noaharticulates mom says he’s kept alone for 23 hours. The Qatar Constitution states “… no person shall be subjected to torture or to degrading treatment; and torture shall be considered a criminal offense.” # WhereIsMalcolm

At the height of the pandemic, Malcolm Bidali described his daily life as a security guard in Qatar. A rare testimony, written in the first person, which may be the source of his detention, fears the large non-governmental organizations that defend human rights.

The exact reason for his arrest is still unclear. The 28-year-old is “under investigation for breaches of security laws and regulations,” the Qatari authorities said simply.

As the FIFA World Cup 2022 approaches, the Bidali deal is another thorn in Qatar’s side. For several months, a global boycott campaign has condemned the treatment of migrant workers in the country.
