Congolese head of state Denis Sassou Nguesso appointed a new prime minister on Wednesday, May 12. Anatole Collinet Makosso, 56, was a former education minister. He replaces Clément Mouamba in office since 2016 and resigned on May 5 after President Sassou Nguesso’s new five-year term.

Born in 1965 in Pointe-Noire (south), economic capital, rebellious city, Anatole Collinet Makosso began his political career in 1990. He in turn was an adviser and chief of staff to the prefect of Kouilou, a region home to Pointe-Noire.
This teacher through training was then an adviser to President Sassou Nguesso from 1998, then Chief of Staff to Antoinette Sassou Nguesso, the first lady.
