Africa 2020, a strong Malagasy presence
It is an extraordinary project, dedicated to 54 African countries. The Africa 2020 season, initiated by President Macron, was designed as a platform offered to African artists, intellectuals and entrepreneurs to show the French public the wealth and creativity of the African continent. And Madagascar will be present at this important event.

From December to next July, more than 200 events will be organized throughout France, around the great challenges of the 21st century. Madagascar will be present at the event with fourteen ambassadors serving in film, music, plastic art, visual arts, performing arts or history. Enough to make the French public aware of the creative, artistic, cultural and civilization richness of the Big Island.

Culinary show at the residence of France. In front of a reconstructed kitchen garden, chef Lalaina, a big name in Malagasy food, spins the five senses of his guests. From April to July 2021, it is in Lyon that he will make his taste buds burst, with a specific goal: “To highlight traditional Malagasy cuisine and show the French that only with products from the poor, which can not be found. , like brede potatoes or taro (tuber), we can make a lot of gourmet dishes. ”
Judith Manantenasoa, dancer and circus artist, will take part in a month-long break in February to create a 100% female cabaret. The volatile company then travels through France to present its creation: “It really is an opportunity for me. Geographically, Mada is far from other countries and other cultures as well. This show is the opportunity to discover in the other dancers how they as African women today develop in our art. ”
The contemporary dancer, Harivola Rakotondrasoa, has been selected to take part in the revival of the Rite of Spring by Pina Bausch at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, together with some thirty other African dancers: “Through these performances, I, what I hope is to show the French that African art is not just traditional and primitive dance. But there is something else. And I really hope that my Malagasy dancer soul will be felt on stage. ”
“Great opportunity”
Right on stage, explains Christophe Bouchard, French Ambassador to Madagascar, the Big Island will be strongly represented with fourteen participants: “It is a fantastic opportunity for Madagascar to show both that the country is completely part of the whole world. ‘Africa and the Indian Ocean, and this is a very active part, as about one in ten projects during the Africa 2020 season involves Malagasy actors. And it will obviously be an opportunity to show the specificity of this island which is part of this group but which is exceptional for its African and Asian heritage. “
