Mogadishu (AX) – A collaborative military maneuver saw Somali government troops and allied local fighters eliminate at least 30 al-Shabab insurgents in the southern reaches of the Mudug region, as confirmed by the Ministry of Information on Saturday.

Among the fallen militants were figures such as Mohamed Bashir Muse, commonly called Mukhtar, the mastermind of al-Shabab’s military operations in that area, and Maadey Foodey, the individual orchestrating explosive threats against residents of Mudug. These key militants met their end in the village of Qay’ad.

The ministry further disclosed that around 40 additional militants were injured during this tactically planned offensive, which is a segment of the government’s persistent campaign to dismantle the al-Qaeda-aligned group.

This operation was swiftly launched in the wake of a tragic suicide attack in Mogadishu, Somalia’s bustling capital, only two days prior. The bomber struck a bustling eatery near the General Kaahiye Police Academy, resulting in the tragic loss of seven lives and leaving half a dozen wounded.

Al-Shabab, maintaining its long-held strategy of unrest, proudly claimed responsibility for this horrific attack, reinforcing its aim to oust Somalia’s ruling establishment.
