“In Praise for Blood”, controversial work on the role of the RPF during the genocide

In Praise of the Blood of Canadian Judi Rever is a book that examines the crimes committed by the Rwandan patriotic army led by Paul Kagame, a rebel who has become the national army of Rwanda. Published since mid-September by the Max Milo editions, organizations such as Ibuka, the Survivors’ Associations, or SOS Racism described the work as a negationist in a column published in the newspaper Liberation.

As it passed through France to promote its work, the Canadian journalist, like her French publisher, insisted on the need to study the evidence presented.

For Jean-Charles Gérard, publishing director of Max Milo, Judi Revers’ book is of public interest. “This book had to be edited by a group publisher, and for political reasons it could not be read. ‘be. So it’s important that independent publishers like me can play this role. Judi’s work is investigative work, and it is important that this voice, which has been completely dismissed, can appear, ”he explains.

Judged on the basis of advanced evidence

In the French version, dozens of pages from the “special investigations” of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda have been added as an appendix, Judi Rever insisting on being judged on the basis of the evidence presented. “There are scholars who are very sectarian, who accuse me of being a negationist because I dare to condemn the RPF’s crimes. [Front patriotique rwandais]. They do not want to examine the evidence and testimonies that are in my book “, the journalist defends.

Philippe Basabose is a genocide survivor and professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is among the first to sign an open letter against the release of Judi Revers’ book. He said he was shocked by some of the ideas developed. “I do not have the text in front of me, but the quote in French is this:” Today, more and more elements tend to show that Tutsi civilians betrayed and killed their neighbors as well. The dynamics implemented were also terribly similar “”, he explains. Philippe Basabose makes sure that he is not embarrassed by the incitement of the crimes by the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), but by comparing them to a local genocide.

One of Judi Rev.’s theses is that the RPF had relied on many accomplices among Tutsi civilians (Abakada) to commit massacres against Hutu civilians during and after the genocide.
