Flights resume at Edinburgh Airport after major IT systems outage
Edinburgh Airport said flights have resumed after a temporary suspension this morning caused by an issue with its air traffic control provider.
The airport, which is the sixth-busiest in the U.K., said travel was halted for a time while the problem was addressed. It handled 15.8 million passengers last year.

Officials provided few details about the nature of the fault or which air traffic control provider was involved. Edinburgh Airport said the disruption was not linked to a separate Cloudflare outage affecting internet services earlier in the day.
Airport authorities did not release a timeline for when the initial problem began or a precise count of delayed or canceled flights. Passengers and airlines were affected while normal operations were restored.
Air traffic control issues can range from technical faults at a control centre to equipment and communications failures, but the airport stopped short of identifying a specific cause. The brief suspension highlights the reliance of busy airports on third-party air traffic management services to maintain safe, continuous operations.
Edinburgh Airport’s confirmation that services are running again will be a relief to travelers returning from or departing to the city, which serves as a major hub for domestic and international routes in and out of Scotland.
Authorities and the airport did not immediately say whether a formal investigation would follow or whether the provider involved would issue a separate statement. Regulators typically review air traffic incidents to determine causes and recommend measures to prevent reoccurrence.
Passengers scheduled to travel through Edinburgh Airport should check with their airline for flight status updates and any additional information about delays or rebookings stemming from the morning’s disruption.
Edinburgh Airport said it will provide further information if it becomes available.
